[Trying to figure out how to deal with the Hope of it all isn't the only reason Josie went to see Freya in New Orleans - Hope just happened to be a convenient excuse. Freya nails the thing she had been holding back, wanting to ask about but unsure how. It seems to make sense, that a millenia old witch might have an idea about the Gemini curse, given that her mother happens to have cast one of the most famously catfished curses in supernatural history.

Freya doesn't have direct answers. She has theories, and theories need to be tested, but given that Freya doesn't make bad faith deals with teenage girls anymore, she says that before she goes any further, Alaric and Lizzie need to be looped in.

Josie, because she's a coward, fills Lizzie in first in the aftermath of the massive spell that she cast to return Hope to the collective consciousness. If Lizzie isn't down to involve the other witch, then there doesn't seem to be a point in bringing it to their dad. Lizzie, being Lizzie was very practical in her assessment.

Does Josie think Freya actually knows what she's talking about? (Yes, the Hope spell worked well enough.)
Does Josie think she can be trusted? (Maybe, as much as any Mikaelson can be trusted, but there has to be a reason that Freya is the Mikaelson who is allowed on school grounds.)
Does Josie want this badly enough? (Yes, if it means they can be sure about the curse being gone)

She still, as affirmative as those answers were, does not want to just approach this outright like an adult however, so she does the next best thing. She checks the spelled students globe to see if there's anyone new, gets the name and location, and makes her way over to Mystic Falls High with a bright smile and a hope to entice him into a car ride where he can't get too angry with her for running away to New Orleans because if he does he could crash the car and they could die.

[Whether or not Josie realizes what she's doing, avoidance is something Ric could tell her a lot about. He wouldn't really, of course. He's too busy avoiding these sorts of conversations entirely with her. They can talk about it when she's older. When she's twenty-five or forty. When she's an adult and has an adult sister because they're both alive.

But as that kind of avoidance is distant and ambiguous when Josie enters his office. He looks up from his reading with a curl at the edges of his mouth. One daughter, no bruising, no visible hexes. There's a chance this will lead to a perfectly delightful place.]

Hey, Pumpkin. What's up?

[It's Rebekah's turn to host the winter holidays, so the three remaining branches of the Mikaelson family have trekked their way up to New York for the few weeks - Kol and Davina from San Franciso and Freya, Keelin and Nik from New Orleans, only stopping in Virginia to pick up Hope on the way. By the time they arrive in the city, a light dusting of snow has already covered the ground, with big, fat, fluffy flakes still trickling down from the sky.

After a lovely meal, a lot of catching up, and a lot of wine (they are Mikaelsons), most of the household has retreated back to bed, except for Freya. It's her turn with Nik, and he's a little unhappy to not be sleeping in his own bed. He's getting to the age where he's starting to know the difference, and this has led to some gentle pacing in the front room, one hand rubbing his back as he buries his face in his mother's shoulder.]

I know. Everything is strange and you just want to go home.

[Her voice is soft, but given the small space, it's not unlikely that the vampires in the group will hear her anyway.]

But unfortunately we have driven a very long way, so hopefully you will just fuss yourself to sleep and we can both go back to bed.

[Her eyes wander to those fluffy flakes again, and she briefly wonders if taking him out into the cold for a little while might help him drift off faster, but one whistling thump of winter wind against the window pane quickly stifles that idea.]

I got put on a recruiting mission.

[She holds up the slip of paper in question. She knows it's going to sound weird, asking him to go recruit a student for the school he no longer works for, but she knows that for her dad, the kids always mattered more than the esteem of the position.]

I figured instead of me driving Uncle Damon's old car, you might want to go with me?

[ although christmas is missing two incredibly insufferable people, their presence is felt. sometimes kol finds himself wondering, much to davina's detriment, if they had missed him during the christmases where they had stuck a dagger in him. while it may be in the past, he's a mikaelson, and if they're good at anything, it's holding grudges like they're the last candy canes on earth.

then he wonders how freya feels… these last few christmases have been her first with her actual family. perhaps he's not quite the odd one out like he used to be. it's nice having a family member who possibly understands where his lingering displacement comes from. do they belong? for how long do they belong? are they merely trying to fill in the spaces of klaus and elijah? is kol simply thinking too much?

although kol's spent the last hour challenging marcel to a drink off that marcellus did, in fact, lose, he's easy and steady on his feet as he walks into the front room. wrapped up in his big, thick coat, it's obvious kol's ready to go for a stroll. ]

Rebekah's choice in decor is certainly a strange one, isn't it? [ it's clear in his voice he's greatly amused—and by the volume of it, hopeful rebekah will hear him. approaching freya and his nephew, he looks at his pudgy face and then to his sister's not so pudgy one. ] I don't blame Nik for judging… I judge, too. It's nice not to be alone in the judgement.

I'm sure it's not.

[She's amused, mostly because she's not one to judge on decor, given the fact that she likes to spend her witch life in a run down church steeple because that's her aesthetic. She then eyes his coat curiously.]

Going out?

[ his shrug's exaggerated, given how thick the coat is. a subtle movement has a high chance of being lost in the coat, and kol isn't one to let his own performances be overshadowed. ]

I was considering it. I've forgotten what snow tastes like.

[ probably the same as it tasted the last time he stuck his tongue out and embarrassed who he happened to be with—which was davina. it seems his victim has potentially changed in size and hair colour. ]

Are you and Nik planning to stay inside where it's nice and warm and not at all interesting?

Well, the hope was that he might nod himself off to sleep again so I could go back to my nice warm bed with my lovely wife and sleep, as we mortals tend to be in need of that.

[It is one of her basic functions, now that she's not immortal anymore.]

But a walk does sound nice, even if it is a little late.

[The kids are the most important part of that school. Without the kids, none of it matters. He does perk up as soon as she mentions her intent, though his eyes squint a bit from the invitation.]

I might. But are you sure that's allowed under the new rules? Wouldn't want to upset Doctor Tool.

[ sleep is for the weak! how many times has he told her this over the years? it doesn't matter that sometimes she comes to san francisco and he's dead asleep on the couch—he'd simply tried to make her feel more at home by pretending that he was a mere human. ]

When has the time ever stopped you, Freya? [ he looks down at nik and ever so gently touches the tip of his finger to his little nose. ] Nik can handle it. He'd like it if his fantastic, spectacular, and very amazing mother came out with her handsome little brother and got a red nose to match his.

[She makes a face like she's weighing these very interesting options, before shaking her head as she goes to grab their coats.]

Just give me a minute to get him bundled up.

What Professor Vardemus doesn't know won't hurt him.

[She gives a small shrug, with that cute little face that says she fully knows she's skirting the rules, but she also thinks it's for a good reason.]

Besides, the rules don't explicitly say you can't.

Well. [He looks up then, smirking faintly. She looks so much like her mother when she makes that face.]

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it. But if it means we're pissing him off and there's nothing he can do about it, I'm in.

Did you remember to bring his stylish coat?

[ does kol know anything about babies and winter? nope. he only cares when it comes to his nephew, nik—the good nik. while he calls after freya, he ensures that he's properly attired to go outside in the cold—thick coat, check; scarf he's stolen from its place on the back of the couch, check. ]

He can't go out looking like a mundane Muggle, Freya.

It's less than a hour into 2020 and I already want to punch some people in the face

[The 2020s are really when everything goes wrong as far as Zari is concerned, but who knows? Maybe the world will surprise her.
