[ one thing dick has always loathed about bruce wayne's playboy persona is the fact that he's always roped in the cleanup.
bruce's parties are often an invitation to one or all of his villains to crash. unsurprisingly, it happens. penguin teams up with mr freeze and crashes wayne manor to ice half of the ground floor and bust a window with an umbrella. (he's pretty sure poison ivy had been in on their plans at one stage, given that there was a vial of greenish poison in penguin's hand, but she seems to have declined for greener pastures.)
with the green arrow and batman in attendance, catwoman's the one who saves the evening. it's unsurprising to dick—selina's pretty efficient, and both green arrow and batman had been incapacitated with a well-timed opening of several umbrellas that have since been shattered into the icicles crunching beneath his feet.
the spiral staircase, desks and drawers furnishing hallways and rooms, and the previously smooth floor of the ground floor are covered in crackling and shattered ice. it'd been made even worse when the party crowd had filed out of wayne manor and into their vehicles, leaving more ice particles in their wake. their sharp shoes and heels hadn't busted up the ice, but had only made it worse.
dick has a broom in his hand, doing his best to try and break it up with a few thwacks of the handle. what would work is his nightwing batons, but he's not too sure if oliver queen's been updated with the fact robin 1.0 is really no longer in business. secret identities are important business—the flash has hammered it into his head green arrow's fondness for saying you've failed. ]
You don't have to help.
[ he rests his hands on the cold end of the broom, letting the bristles soak up the cold shards of thick ice coating the floor. he's tired. one thing he forgot about mr freeze was how dense his ice blasts were. ]
I can clean this up. I think Alfred's making slushies, so... [ he cocks his head toward the direction of the kitchen as his invitation for mia to go ahead. ]

[She feels like she owes it to him, especially after her dad was such an embarrassment. Not that she thinks that Selina doesn't deserve her win - she's a bamf, there should be more like her - but if her father is going to tout himself as the Hero of Star City, his weakness probably shouldn't be umbrellas.
She's just saying.
She will give him grief for it later, but she can't let Dick clean up on his own. She makes her way closer resting one hand on his shoulder as she pulls one heel up, unsheathing the stiletto knife that one of his dad's old friends had built into his shoes.]
This might make breaking up that ice a little faster.

give me winter wonderland, if you please.
but of course (ii.6)
After a lovely meal, a lot of catching up, and a lot of wine (they are Mikaelsons), most of the household has retreated back to bed, except for Freya. It's her turn with Nik, and he's a little unhappy to not be sleeping in his own bed. He's getting to the age where he's starting to know the difference, and this has led to some gentle pacing in the front room, one hand rubbing his back as he buries his face in his mother's shoulder.]
I know. Everything is strange and you just want to go home.
[Her voice is soft, but given the small space, it's not unlikely that the vampires in the group will hear her anyway.]
But unfortunately we have driven a very long way, so hopefully you will just fuss yourself to sleep and we can both go back to bed.
[Her eyes wander to those fluffy flakes again, and she briefly wonders if taking him out into the cold for a little while might help him drift off faster, but one whistling thump of winter wind against the window pane quickly stifles that idea.]

then he wonders how freya feels… these last few christmases have been her first with her actual family. perhaps he's not quite the odd one out like he used to be. it's nice having a family member who possibly understands where his lingering displacement comes from. do they belong? for how long do they belong? are they merely trying to fill in the spaces of klaus and elijah? is kol simply thinking too much?
although kol's spent the last hour challenging marcel to a drink off that marcellus did, in fact, lose, he's easy and steady on his feet as he walks into the front room. wrapped up in his big, thick coat, it's obvious kol's ready to go for a stroll. ]
Rebekah's choice in decor is certainly a strange one, isn't it? [ it's clear in his voice he's greatly amused—and by the volume of it, hopeful rebekah will hear him. approaching freya and his nephew, he looks at his pudgy face and then to his sister's not so pudgy one. ] I don't blame Nik for judging… I judge, too. It's nice not to be alone in the judgement.
no subject
[She's amused, mostly because she's not one to judge on decor, given the fact that she likes to spend her witch life in a run down church steeple because that's her aesthetic. She then eyes his coat curiously.]
Going out?
no subject
I was considering it. I've forgotten what snow tastes like.
[ probably the same as it tasted the last time he stuck his tongue out and embarrassed who he happened to be with—which was davina. it seems his victim has potentially changed in size and hair colour. ]
Are you and Nik planning to stay inside where it's nice and warm and not at all interesting?
no subject
[It is one of her basic functions, now that she's not immortal anymore.]
But a walk does sound nice, even if it is a little late.

[The 2020s are really when everything goes wrong as far as Zari is concerned, but who knows? Maybe the world will surprise her.
She's ... not exactly betting on it though.]

[A pause. What is actually good from the 2020s?]
Baby Yoda remains insanely popular?
no subject
[ Her optimism has its limits, she gets it. ]
That's a relief, I guess. One bright spot to look forward to.

[It's a lie, Zari is totally swayed by the power of tiny adorability, but she doesn't want to acknowledge that to the rest of the world. She has a reputation to maintain.]
But I guess the internet will always go crazy for something cute.

here have my feelings
yes, they are some good feelings
Freya doesn't have direct answers. She has theories, and theories need to be tested, but given that Freya doesn't make bad faith deals with teenage girls anymore, she says that before she goes any further, Alaric and Lizzie need to be looped in.
Josie, because she's a coward, fills Lizzie in first in the aftermath of the massive spell that she cast to return Hope to the collective consciousness. If Lizzie isn't down to involve the other witch, then there doesn't seem to be a point in bringing it to their dad. Lizzie, being Lizzie was very practical in her assessment.
She still, as affirmative as those answers were, does not want to just approach this outright like an adult however, so she does the next best thing. She checks the spelled students globe to see if there's anyone new, gets the name and location, and makes her way over to Mystic Falls High with a bright smile and a hope to entice him into a car ride where he can't get too angry with her for running away to New Orleans because if he does he could crash the car and they could die.

She knocks lightly on the door of his office.]
Hey, Dad.

But as that kind of avoidance is distant and ambiguous when Josie enters his office. He looks up from his reading with a curl at the edges of his mouth. One daughter, no bruising, no visible hexes. There's a chance this will lead to a perfectly delightful place.]
Hey, Pumpkin. What's up?
no subject
[She holds up the slip of paper in question. She knows it's going to sound weird, asking him to go recruit a student for the school he no longer works for, but she knows that for her dad, the kids always mattered more than the esteem of the position.]
I figured instead of me driving Uncle Damon's old car, you might want to go with me?
OKAY HELLO I am prepared to revisit this thread
I might. But are you sure that's allowed under the new rules? Wouldn't want to upset Doctor Tool.
