Muselist is HERE and it's not completely updated, but I'm going to try and do that tonight. You may select SURPRISE for what character you want, but if you do it will likely be a crossover ship of my choosing. I don't really do M/M slash, but M/F and F/F are both fair game. Annnnnnnd that's it.

[Castle is still wondering how he managed to talk Kate into a vacation, but he's definitely not questioning it. This will be their first time really going away together. The Hamptons doesn't count, in his opinion. He gently fingered the brochure on Fiji.]

Well... warm means I'll probably get to see you in a tiny bikini...

Mmmmm.

[She pauses for a moment before flipping through something on the Alps.]

But cold means fireplaces and hot baths and lots of close contact.

[She glances up at him with a smirk.]

Body heat is really the best way to warm up.

[He nods seriously because that's true, although he still prefers warmer climates to colder ones when going on vacation.]

I've been a lot of places around the world already. [Castle pulls her close to him, wrapping his arms around her waist.] You haven't. I want you to pick this time.

[She leans back into him, taking a breath as she tries to think about where she really wants to go.]

Really? Anywhere I want?

Castle held her gently, rocking her slightly as he looked over her shoulder at the brochures.

"Sure."

He wouldn't regret that, right? It wasn't like Kate would want to go to some third world country on their vacation. No, he trusted her taste far more than that and was sure she would pick an excellent place.

No, Kate is not going to pick some third world country. She wants to relax too. But it's just a matter of determining how she wants to relax which is the tricky part. She will admit that there's more to do in warmer weather, but at the same time, everyone goes to a tropical destination.

"What about Istanbul?" Not a beach but not a ski resort either. Something different from the typical vacations. Something like that could be fun.

Now that's a different choice, one that Castle wasn't expecting.

"Beckett, you managed to pick one of the few places I've never been. Congratulations." He grins at her. "I like it. The architecture there is beautiful and could be very inspirational. Maybe Nikki Heat will be come an international woman of mystery in her next book."

Victory! Something new for both of them and something a little unconventional to boot. She glances back at him with a pleased smile, that turns slightly exasperated as he continues to speak.

"Or maybe Richard Castle will remember that this isn't a working vacation."

"Psh, Richard Castle barely does working let alone working vacations."

It's true, as much as he hates to admit it. But if Kate ever brought up his rather easy lifestyle he'd vehemently deny it. The fact is that a writer's brain is always working because inspiration is everywhere. It isn't something he can turn off, but he can turn it down in order to pay attention to his favorite muse.

She definitely wouldn't mind the muse attention on this. That's all she's saying. Besides, she knows he's always working the same way she is. It's just a matter of knowing when it's time to take a break.

"Uh-huh. Let's just keep the Nikki Heat talk to when they get back to New York."

"Fine. But you do realize that anywhere you are is a place where I'll be inspired, right?" He kisses her cheek. "Now I need to start searching for weird things for us to do and see in Istanbul. Also two words: Turkish coffee."

Castle has a feeling that their suitcases will be coming back much heavier.

Oh, they probably will. Souvenirs are absolutely necessary in a place like Istanbul. She smirks a bit at the comment about him being inspired wherever she is, but that's something they can come back to later.

"Absolutely. We can't go anywhere without trying the coffee."

It's true, Kate. Find it sappy if you will, but being around her always puts him in a mood to write, and so far he's been pleased with what she's helped him produce. There's an old saying that an artist shouldn't marry his muse, but Castle feels like not having her by his side every day would be more of a detriment than anything.

"Is there a 12 Step program for caffeine addiction?"

Kate likes to think that they're more than writer and muse at this point anyway. With everything they've been through to become partners, become friends, become more, the writing end of things is just an anecdote. An afterthought in the story that is their relationship.

It's where things started - it's not where they'll end.

"Do you really want to find out?"

"Yes. If only so I can avoid it."

He and Kate are much more than just a writer and a muse, though he won't discount the writing. They're his love letters to her, as odd as that may be. Everything he writes is done with her in mind. It isn't their whole relationship, but it's still important to him.

"Duly noted. If I hear anything, I will let you know."

Just so he can adequately keep his distance. She wouldn't want to give up his love of coffee.

"Detox from caffeine can actually be rough if you've ever tried it. Once I promised Gina we would do a cleanse and I seriously thought I was going to die, that's how bad the migraine was."

Castle brought Kate's legs up over his lap, hoping to enjoy a bit of cuddling time with her. Despite being prickly sometimes, Kate was an amazing cuddler.

She loves cuddling quite a bit, so she goes easily, inching closer and resting her head against his shoulder as she settles. "I haven't. I wasn't nearly desperate enough to try. But I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to."

Castle kisses her forehead, then gazes down at her pleadingly. "Promise that you'll never make me do a cleanse? Or go vegan? Or tell me that my aura is off?"

Really, he's not too worried that she would do any of this, but he feels the need to be reassured. Marriage sometimes changes people.

She laughs a bit at that, before shaking her head. "Don't worry. Your eating habits are safe from me." Besides, when have you known her to become overly focused on auras anyway. She's the Scully to your Mulder, Castle, she's more worried about that kind of stuff from you.

Please. Castle may be all about the supernatural, but the New Age stuff does nothing for him. It just seems kind of ridiculous. Aliens though? Totally not ridiculous.

"So what made you decide to pick Turkey?"

Of course. How could she not have seen the logic in that before?

"I was just trying to think of something different." She settles against him a little more, shifting so that she's comfortable, but can also look at him easily. "Everyone goes to beaches or mountains - I thought why not try something in the middle."

Castle's nothing if not completely logical.

"I like it. Very creative, Beckett." He takes her hand and laces her fingers with his. "We're going to have fun." Castle raises an eyebrow, indicating exactly what type of fun he's hoping for.

She has a feeling he was expecting that kind of fun, and to be honest, she's expecting a lot of that herself. So long as they do take a break to see the sights every once in a while. "We are. I think it'll be a good vacation."
