Her mouth works for a moment, because that's not an easy question either. "The witches of the French Quarter are the ones controlling the werewolves. I don't think you're going to find a lot of help there."
Sorry, again, Caroline. But any enemy of Klaus is a friend as far as Davina is concerned. Maybe this might be worth sticking her neck out for.
"But maybe I can help." She pauses before sticking out her hand. "I'm Davina Claire. I used to be part of their coven before they started going crazy."
"Seriously?!" So she's basically wasted a trip or at least until the other girl speaks again and then Caroline eyes her with more interest before reaching to shake her hand.
"Yeah, I could use the help. I've got a problem that's basically ... well it's kind of witch business?" Caroline falls quiet for a moment glancing around.
"Maybe somewhere less public. Oh, and I'm Caroline Forbes."
Davina nods for a moment, before gesturing over her shoulder for Caroline to follow her. There aren't a whole lot of safe places in New Orleans, but she still has a few that she calls her own.
Caroline hesitates for a moment before sending off a quick text that if she disappears, to look for someone named Davina Claire and then follows the witch out of the coffee shop. Better to at least have someone know where to look for if this whole thing does go south.
"...So, how long has this been going on, anyway? The whole werewolves and witches thing?"
She shakes her head. "Not long. A few months? Everything kind of exploded after the Mikaelson baby was born and killed and now it's pretty much been gorilla warfare ever since." She glances back to her, eyeing her for a moment. "I know you said you didn't want to see Klaus, but the safest place for you to be when you aren't with me? Is with a vampire named Marcel Gerard. He's close with the Originals, but right now his priorities are to the vampires of this city."
Caroline had stopped dead when the word baby passed Davina's lips and was just staring at her. "...I'm sorry, did you say Mikaelson baby? Because that's not...
How is that even possible?" She didn't really hear the rest, sorry, her brain is just kind of in a mild state of what the hell.
The words Klaus and baby in the same sentence just kind of have her staring at Davina, mouth slightly open before she actually forced herself to close it.
"...I don't make a habit of talking to him, so no."
She laughs a bit before nodding. "Well, I will see what I can do. But unfortunately, you may be stuck with just me. I'm probably the only witch in town who will willingly help a vampire right now."
Davina just ... laughs. Because who did you think would be responsible, Caroline? But since she clearly knows and is not fond of Klaus which makes Davina more inclined to help her.
"Yeah, it's kind of a long story, but you probably know about the Other Side already, so that at least saves me some explaining." Because the whole witch thing just made it simpler.
"Short version: She and my other best friend's boyfriend were in there when it collapsed and we have no idea what happened to them. But they were alive in there.
So I've been trying to find any witches who might be able to help figure it out."
Her eyes widen a bit as she processes that, because while Davina's been dead before, she's never had to deal with the other side. The dead are consecrated to the Ancestors in New Orleans, which means they bypass the Other Side entirely.
"I can try. I don't know anything about the Other Side, though. The witches of New Orleans don't have to deal with it, really."
"Oh, I didn't know, I mean, Bonnie was linked with it and all. It was kind of a big thing in Mystic Falls since we had a lot of incidents related to it. I can tell you what I know about it, if that might help."
She nods in agreement before holding her hands up to explain. "She probably practiced traditional magic. The witches of New Orleans practice ancestral magic. Our bodies are consecrated to the ancestors and are added to the collective power of the witches of the city. This allows us to bypass the Other Side."
But she's heard about it from Kol and some of the witches who have passed through.
"That's really all I can ask. I've spent the entire summer hunting down witches but most of them don't even have the faintest idea or the kind of power to reach wherever she is." And admittedly, she hadn't really been keen on the idea of approaching the twins.
For a lot of reasons.
"I just, it's always been the three of us. Elena, Bonnie and me, so anything you can do, it'd be really appreciated.
Davina gets that. She used to have best friends too, before the Harvest ruined her life. Caroline doesn't share that situation, however, and she lost her friends to a situation beyond her control.
"What do you know about how the Other Side works? I know vampires and werewolves wind up there too."
"Well, thanks to firsthand information, it was created around 2000 years ago when a witched named Qetsiyah and her fiance decided to create an immortality spell. Thing is, he betrayed her with a girl named Amara. So pissed off super-witch creates the dimension to ensure he spends eternity with her there instead of being with his soulmate, who she made the anchor." Oversimplification maybe but Caroline continues after a moment.
So, after Bonnie lost her magic, this professor decided to teach her a different form of magic and also tell us about the cure for vampirism which of course gained a lot of attention and ended up bringing Silas back to life.
Which is when we found out the true cause of the doppelganger thing, and it's just a complicated mess, but Bonnie agreed to become the anchor and take Amara's place. and then we had to deal with another type of witch.
The bodyhopping type. They basically took blood from my friends and drank it and then committed mass suicide to destroy all spirit magic. Took down the other side and made my hometown a magic free zone." Which was another annoying thing.
"My hometown was ground zero for their spell thing. Basically they hated traditional witches because of some long running feud and not being able to practice the same type of magic. Since vampires were created using that sort of magic, we step foot into the town and we die.
Davina pauses, before pushing up for a moment, before holding up her finger. "Well, a magical barrier I can break. It's just a matter of overriding the power, and since I don't practice traditional magic, I might be able to get it done. It would simply be a matter of getting the ancestors to agree to let me carry my magic there." There's a pause as she makes her way closer. "If I can get the regent of New Orleans on my side, it might work."

Well then. She takes a deep breath before turning back to face the sidewalk again.
"Anyway. Since Klaus is a hybrid, he hit some kind of loophole. Vampires can't impregnate people, but werewolves can and since he's both ... ?"
Oopsie daisy that's a baby.

No, it didn't make a bit of sense and Caroline resisted the urge to introduce her head to the nearest wall. "...Right, okay then. I just...
I just need to find out if you or any of the witches can help and then go back to where the world makes sense again."

no subject
Because she's all too familiar with not being able to go home again.
"What does that have to do with the destruction of the Other Side?"
no subject
It's all sort of linked together."
