[In addition to not talking about that time that Derek kissed her, and letting her renovate his place, Derek now also has to celebrate Christmas.

It's not completely terrible, though. Cora comes home for it, which means Derek's mood already is improving by like ... five, and now that he and Phoebe have talked about their communication issues (which is hilarious because when does Derek Hale know how to communicate), things have been going a lot smoother. Beacon Hills has even been quiet lately. Life is good for Derek Hale. That's not a statement that gets to be said a lot.

Christmas dinner was ordered in because the idea of any of them cooking is not a good one, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to clean up. Cora is in a food coma on the couch, lightly dozing, and Derek is washing the dishes. As he reaches the end of the stack, he glances back to Phoebe with a frown.]

Is that everything?

[ phoebe is quieter than usual now that the celebration is over.

an amazing feat all on its own. phoebe is never quiet. one would think she doesn't understand the meaning of the word. she hasn't said anything remotely inappropriate to derek at all today, someone should check for a fever. but christmas is family time and while phoebe doesn't think of the end of her world often if she can help it, it's sort of unavoidable this time of year. she is very happy derek has cora, but she misses her family. she misses xander and castiel and elizabeth. she is extremely allergic to sadness, however, so does what she does best: studiously ignore it and fix something else: in this case, the mess they left after dinner. ]

[Derek knows how empty holidays after losing people can be. The first few holidays after the fire were some of the worst. Laura tried - she tried hard - but it was never the same as it used to be.
