[Why is Matt in Star City? The narration doesn't entirely know. Maybe it's a matter of a defendant that Matt was representing in Hell's Kitchen getting into trouble out of state? Whatever it is, he and Laurel have been butting heads in court and Laurel is suitably impressed by a lot of things when it comes to Matt Murdock.

That being said, when he gets invited to some holiday party because he happens to be in town and happens to wind up under everyone's least favorite decoration, she feels like she should at least warn him he's in trouble.

Because, naturally, she assumes he didn't see it.]

Careful, Counselor. Some of the guests around here take mistletoe very seriously.

[that's exactly what's going on here. yep. either way, though, at the mention of mistletoe, Matt inclines his head upwards briefly, as if glancing up at it. obviously, no, he can't see it, but gestures like this one seem to make people more comfortable]

[(he also can smell it and may have positioned himself under it intentionally, but she doesn't know that)]

... I'm standing right under it, aren't I?

[She laughs softly, before nodding her agreement. She doesn't know the power of Matt's charm, though somewhere Foggy Nelson is probably going HOW DO YOU DO THAT, YOU JERK and has no idea why.

(No, he has some idea, but he's just not personally there to witness it.)

That being said, she will nod in agreement, even though he can't see that either.]

Yep. You managed to land in the bulls-eye.

And here I thought I was just making sure I was out of the way. [leaning in the doorway and totally not standing under it intentionally. to lend weight to the idea that this was a complete accident, however, he's going to have to move, and so he puts a hand to the door frame and feels along it until he finds the wall. he takes a half-step forward, too, and as he does so, and speaking of Foggy, continues with:] You know, I have a friend back home who'd be having a field day with this.

[a beat]

Not in a taking mistletoe seriously sort of way, just -- he'd swear this kind of thing was just my luck.

[The smirk is clear in her tone as she takes a small step back to help him move past her.]

I guess the whole blind thing has a certain kind of charm.

[he murmurs a thanks at the touch, letting that and the feel of the wall lead him out from under the mistletoe. not that he goes far -- he's just loitering against the wall, nearby, rather than directly under it, now]

So he tells me. [a beat] Honestly, I think he just likes having me along as his wingman. [because rescuing the blind guy from sticky situations like this totally earns him points with women and Matt is totally not the one that usually goes home with all the ladies, no]

[That makes her actually laugh, and once Matt is safely out of harm's way she will release his arm and pull back into her own personal space.]

Oh, I'm sure. "Helping out my blind friend" probably wins him a ton of points with the ladies.

[Her tone is a little dry, as though she's not entirely serious, yet she knows she also speaks the truth at the same time. She remembers so many girls from her club days who would have fawned over both of them.]

[he nods]

It works for him.

[and if the fact that Matt is smiling when he says it, he's not particularly bothered by the fact that, despite the fact he's more likely to take someone home, Foggy has used him for the points factor. it's good for him. the guy needs someone who isn't whatever friends-with-benefits thing he has going with Marci]

[College is college which means there is a party for every occasion and while Sam isn't really the partying type, he's trying to have a full college experience. Which, his roommate insists, is not complete without attending the end of break kegger at Kappa Phi Kappa.

(Granted, this is only because he wasn't staffed at the restaurant that day, which is really an incredible stroke of luck, but he had considered saying he was for a half a second, just to get out of doing what he's doing right now.

Which, unfortunately, is standing very tall and awkwardly in the corner.)

He also, unfortunately, has no idea that he's standing directly under one of the many sprigs of mistletoe scattered throughout the frat house. Someone should probably alert him to that, sooner rather than later.]

[Parties at college are a dime a dozen, but that doesn't mean Caroline doesn't enjoy attending her share of them, given her recently single status. She'd been picking her way around the edges though before all but getting shoved face to chest with Sam. ~~Totally accidentally too. Really~~

Who had been hard to miss given he kind of stood above a lot of the room and was actually kind of cute so he gets a smile as Caroline takes a half step back.]

When Sam first spots mistletoe hanging around the doorways of the firm, he also becomes very quick to avoid them. Something so normal doesn't really have a place in Wolfram and Hart as far as he's concerned, and he's willing to bet it's not being used for it's intended seasonal purpose.

(Though he does feel it's an appropriately themed decoration, given that mistletoe is a parasitic plant and the firm feels like a giant parasitic worm sometimes, but he doesn't actually state that out loud.)

That being said, as he's making his way through the office he catches sight of Lilah standing under one of those sprigs and ... well. He never said he objected to other people getting caught under it. He comes up behind her as she's using the copier, before leaning over her shoulder.

"You know, I find it hard to believe that this was the only available copier in the building."

[Sam's reflexes are actually pretty good and when Caroline stumbles into him, his free hand automatically goes up to catch her elbow and help keep her steady. She's ... pretty, which is the thing he notices first, given that he's a guy, and it takes some awkward stammering after she actually speaks to him for him to get the words out.]

Sam. I ... I'm Sam.

[As long as Matt doesn't feel mistreated for it, then Laurel can't really say she cares. It's not really her place to judge what other people do with their best friends when she opts to run around with hers clad in leather and wielding a baton.]

Did this friend opt to not join you in Star City?

It's not often that Bela manages to stumble her way into vampire business, but occasionally that business manages to stumble into her. No matter how steadfastly she avoids Mystic Falls and New Orleans, it somehow manages to sneak back in again.

(Granted, she doesn't avoid Mystic Falls all that often, for Tyler more than anything else, but she at least manages to stay out of the major battles. Otherwise, she probably wouldn't be all that likely to stay alive.)

It's been some time since she last spoke to Tyler, some things on her side of the supernatural requiring her to lay low for a bit to now draw interested party's attention, but when she finally does resurface to do some work, she is uncomfortable to realize that she's walked right into a nest of vampires and this is most likely a trap. A very elegant, very upper class trap, but a trap nonetheless. It's the best kind of trap to catch her in, really, and the last thing she expects is for a very familiar werewolf to walk in and immediately this becomes complicated.

Bela usually doesn't care what happens to herself - any death is better than the death that would have come with her deal. But she does care what happens to Tyler, so if this is a trap for her, it's clear that he would be the perfect bait. She glances around quietly for a moment, before grabbing a second flute of champagne and making her way over.

Unfortunately, Stefan doesn't come back as quickly as he would have liked. Bonnie's death means having to find a different way to put down Silas, which he stays to do but it leads to Stefan getting kidnapped by Silas, Silas pretending to be him for a while, and then being stuck in a safe for three months drowning. While Silas was great at being Stefan in Mystic Falls, Allison was a secret Stefan kept to himself so things went from regular texts and phone calls with updates to nothing at all.

By the time Stefan makes it back to Mystic Falls, it's almost Christmas and he's found out he's a doppelganger, had his memories erased, and been through far more trauma than any sane person should fairly be able to manage, but he wants, more than anything to see her so before Elena and Damon can try and convince him to stay, he's leaving again. Silas and Amara are dead - they shouldn't need him anymore.

The real problem comes once he arrives in Beacon Hills. He knows it's been months since Allison has heard any word from him, and no one in Mystic Falls mentioned having spoken to her. He arrives at her front door late in the evening on Christmas Eve, hesitating for a moment before knocking quickly before he can second guess it. He has so much explaining to do - he just hopes she'll give him a chance to.

[Matt's smile falters a little, at that, and he shakes his head]

He's got the flu. [a beat] We've been networking, every night, to go over case details, and so he can tell me he's dying, but uh ... [he shrugs]

[truth be told, he really doesn't like the idea of leaving Foggy alone for long periods of time. sure, he's taken care of Fisk by now, but the Kitchen still isn't the safest place, and who knows when the next asshole will climb out of the woodworks? what if something happens, while he's gone?]

[To be fair, Star City can be a pretty dangerous place too. Laurel's nervous about having anyone visit their city these days, but she can't bring herself to leave much - unless, of course, it's going to Central City because Team Flash needs them.]

Well, hopefully things will wrap up soon, so you can head back and make sure he recovers.

[Star City might be just as dangerous as the Kitchen, but he'd still feel a lot better if Foggy were here. at least then, he'd be able to keep an eye on him]

[but at any rate, he lets out a breath and nods] Until then, I just get to keep reminding myself that he's in good hands. [he pauses again, before, by way of explanation, offering:] Our secretary's been kind of looking after him.
