[Christmas parties, oddly enough, are one of the best places to sneak rare artifacts out from under people's noses. This one isn't particularly fancy, though just fancy enough, and Bela has been searching for her moment to sneak away and grab the item she's been looking for.

She doesn't expect, however, for interference to come in the form of Duke Crocker.

As she makes her way across the room, snagging for herself a glass of champagne as she goes, she makes sure she catches his eye so that he sees her coming - sneaking up on potential allies isn't really her style - and smirks slightly once she close enough to speak.]

[Duke does catch her eye from a distance. It makes him smirk slightly taht she thinks to warn him, and then it widens at the sight of the smirk on her face as he takes his own glass of champagne to sip from. He's not really a champagne guy but why not sip from it to fit in? He can fit in.]

Really?

[It's asked as he tilts his head to the side. A flirty smile tugging across his lips]

Do I not seem like the holiday sort? I'm almost offended. I'm all about the spirit of giving and receiving. Gifts.

[Her eyebrows go up a bit at that, amused at his need to clarify, before taking a sip of her own and glancing away to scan the room again.]

I was thinking more the black tie dress code. You're usually much more comfortable on your boat.

It was an internal struggle to get myself into this, but... it's an important night.

[Duke has a feeling she knows that too. It's not just any party. His gaze drifts over her with a slow smile on his face.]

You on the other hand? You look gorgeous.

[Oh, she knows. But it's impolite to talk about it now, so she will just take her compliments where they're due.]

[Duke smirks lightly as his gaze drifts over her as he sees her standing in front of him. She is incredibly beautiful, and he makes no effort to hide his reaction to her.]

This is one of those holiday parties where I find need to.
