He handles the small talk. He doesn't like it any better than she does but he can handle it. He's used to it, at least. So he handles that while she goes to get the information. He's nursing a drink himself, it's about the only way he gets through these things. He smirks a little.]
If you can believe it, this is one of the better ones.

And this would be why I never went corporate.

[And not just the disposable income -- but that doesn't hurt.
He places a hand on her back, more for show than anything else. So anyone who saw them wouldn't think they were doing anything beyond possibly flirting.]
no subject
Not.
But she tries her best not to flinch at the hand, keeping her eyes on Bruce and trying to remember that this was Bruce. She trusted him - as much as Jessica ever trusted anyone - and he wasn't going to steal her body from her at a moment's notice.]
I guess it does.

I can do just as much good as Bruce Wayne. [His voice is low, in case people are listening.]
It's always been a two for one deal, for better or worse.

But put her in a dress, with a man in a nice suit, and that particular gesture, and it's almost enough to take her back to that place, but she's getting better at pushing through it. Which is why she takes another step closer, as Bruce is a man she actually trusts, and uses the hand facing away from the cameras and other party goers to adjust his hand so that it rests a little bit higher and a little more in her comfort zone.]
Seems to me like the other guy has more fun.
no subject
As difficult as trust might come to both of them.]
His life is certainly more interesting, I can't deny that.
[It's the life he prefers, he itches to go down into the streets of Gotham and do something that matters.]
no subject
Well, since we have what we need, what do you say we get the hell out of here?
no subject
[not that he's ever been bad at those.]
no subject
Do you want to get kicked out or leave quietly?
[The former is easier, but the latter is probably better for his image.]
no subject
[The occasional scandal is good for his reputation, after all.]
no subject
I'll get us some refills.

By the time she gets to the bar, she's looking properly sloshed.
A few minutes later, the sound of drunken, indignant fighting starts to echo from that end of the ballroom.]

It seems my friend has had too much, I'll make sure she gets home carefully.
no subject
This isn't over you overperfumed bitch!
[And well. You did say you wanted to make a scene, Bruce.]
no subject
He leans in to whisper to her, something that might look more intimate than it was to the outside eye]
Keep it up.

[She slurs her words as she tries to half-heartedly shove his arm off her. If she really wanted to, she would, but for now she was just playing along.]
She didn't like my dress.
[And there's an overdramatic pout.]
no subject
[He's aware that it's an act, that she could overpower him easily if she wanted to. But for now he begins to tugging her towards the door.]
no subject
Did you see the look on her face?
no subject
I did. She was livid. Good show.
no subject
[She laughs a bit before tipping her head back and closing her eyes.]
I have to say, jobs for you are never boring.
no subject
[the surprises are rarely good but it's never boring, she's right about that.]
no subject
I'm sure some people would prefer it surprised them a little less.
