3. Pick a starter. (You can also ask me to surprise you here too, and I'll RNG it.)
4. Profit.

Time travel. That's ... new.

[Beacon Hills usually falls under magical creatures umbrella, rather than the time travel one. But Lydia also doesn't seem surprised or bothered by the concept because, you know, werewolves are real. Why not time travel?]

So why are you poking around Beacon Hills?

But I'm guessing not the weirdest thing you've heard of.

[she's taking it surprisingly well, after all.]

We think one of the creatures we accidentally set loose ended up here.
beanchaointe: (when will i learn)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2018-12-20 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Beacon Hills has a whole lot of weird. You learn to take these things in stride.

[That being said, however, the word "creature" gets her attention, because Beacon Hills has all kinds of creatures, but the words "set loose" soon after means that it's probably not a nice creature.

They were doing so well, post-Monroe. Things had been so quiet. There's an obvious shift from her curious face to her business face.]

What kind of creature are we talking about? Werewolf? Kanima? ... Please tell me it wasn't a beserker.

[Hayden is still out of town, so their closest friend with Nagual tendencies is going to be hard to get a hold of.]

No. None of those. [he pauses for a moment, as if trying to recall.] What we're looking for, is some sort of mermaid, and not the magical kind who wants to be part of our world but more like the lures men to their death with sirenesque songs sort.
beanchaointe: (can't feel anything)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-01-02 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a quiet moment as she weighs the pros and cons of handling this on her own with this stranger versus bringing this stranger in and taking it to Scott. She knows that they're going to be on Scott's turf and he should know about these things, but at the same time, this is Scott and he'll want to be involved and the last thing they need is a sirened true alpha.

At the same time, Scott's not the lost dumb puppy he used to be.

At the same time ... Liam.

She huffs a breath to pull out her phone to text him, before gesturing for Nate to follow her.]

Come on. I have a hunch where we can find her.
annalist: (cause we'll have the banks)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-01-24 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
Lead the way.

[this is her turf, after all. ]

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-01-24 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[She leads the way back to her car, mostly because it'll be easier if she drives. Once Scott confirms that he'll meet them at the nematon, she hits the road and eventually glances back to him.]

Since Beacon Hills is pretty landlocked, I'm guessing they're able to survive on land?
annalist: (Default)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-02-07 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like it. I don't think they have their fins all the time -- it sounds like they can take a human form if they need to.
beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-02-07 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Then she's definitely going to head towards the nematon.

[And she diverts off towards the preserve heading away from the populated areas of Beacon Hills.]

I let the local alpha know. He's probably going to meet us there.

[Both to try and make peace and protect Lydia if needed - not that Lydia needs much protecting these days.]
annalist: (Default)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-02-10 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds good. We'll need whatever help we can get.

[and if there's anything he's learned from talking to mona it's that not all shapeshifters and creatures are inherently bad.]
beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-02-10 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lydia nods as she continues to drive, the buildings of the town proper falling away to the wooded roadways that lead up to the back, less populated area of the preserve.]

So what are you going to do with her when you find her?
annalist: (with dinner and an invite)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-02-17 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends, if she's not actively harming people we'll just take her into the bureau until we can get her back to where she belongs -- if she's hurting people it might be more complicated.
beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-02-19 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, but unfortunately "back to the bureau" isn't really a satisfactory answer when she doesn't really know what the bureau does.]

And if you take her back to the bureau, what will happen there?
annalist: (Default)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-03-22 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
We'll keep her in captivity until we can find a way to get her back where she belongs. Mona, one of my coworkers, is really good at taking care of the creatures there. She really knows her stuff.
beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-03-22 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lydia's quiet, trying to struggle with how to phrase this so that she doesn't offend him, but in the end, she can't help but speak her mind:]

That kind of sounds a bit like a zoo.
annalist: (Default)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-03-26 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds worse than it is -- I mean, it was pretty bad at first, I gotta admit, but Mona has really turned things around. She really wants to help them.'

beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-04-03 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Lydia exhales slowly, because that's not really exuding a lot of confidence.]

Ever think about just ... letting them live their lives like they're actual people?
annalist: (wait for it wait for it wait for it)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-04-11 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Some of them are really dangerous -- not all of them, but some of them. We want to find a way to get them back where they belong, so they can do that. But we can't risk innocent people in the process.
beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-04-14 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[She presses her lips together, because they're all dangerous, in their own ways. What matters is intent. And in Lydia's experience, "innocent peeople" are getting harder and harder to define.

But she says nothing else as she pulls up to one of the small side parking lots for the preserve, and sees Scott climbing off his motorcycle. He waves to Lydia, and she waves in return. She doesn't know what Nate was expecting when it came to the True Alpha of Beacon Hills, but it probably wasn't a guy wearing a lacrosse coach polo and windbreaker.]

That's Scott.
annalist: (Default)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-04-16 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[maybe not -- but nate is also somewhat quickly learning that he shouldn't jump to a lot of conclusions when it came to other creatures.

after all, he once thought unicorns were magical.

he holds his hand out to scott once the other man has approached them.
]

Hey Scott, I'm Nate
beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-04-16 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[And Scott will shake his hand in turn with a warm smile because that's who Scott is. "Hi, Nate. It's nice to meet you. Lydia said we're looking for some kind of siren?"

Lydia nods as she catches up, currently gathering her long hair away from her face, since they're going to be walking in the woods.]

I think she probably headed towards the nematon.
annalist: (Default)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-04-21 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the Beacon in Beacon Hills, right?
beanchaointe: (Default)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-04-25 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.

[Lydia finishes the word with a pop.]

It tends to draw magical creatures in regardless of whether they're good or bad.

[Scott nods as well. "Most of the good ones are just looking for somewhere safe to stay. I have a bit of a reputation that keeps a lot of hunter trouble out. They start families, build packs ... just live their lives."]

And for the ones who are less than altruistic, we have Scott. And the local hellhound.
annalist: (Default)

[personal profile] annalist 2019-04-26 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hellhound?

I'm guessing that's better than it sounds?
beanchaointe: (from the chandelier)

[personal profile] beanchaointe 2019-04-26 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Not actually from Hell, for one, but shows up covered in fire, so I'm sure those who first coined the term thought it did.

[Jordan Parrish is too much of a sweetheart to be considered from hell, but the hound, on the other hand, is a rather relentless creature, so that probably contributed to it too.]

A person dies valiantly by fire and somehow they survive, by sharing the body with the hound. The hound is charged with protecting the nematon and the secret of supernatural creatures along with a bunch of other stuff tied up in various and sundry mythologies.
