Seth leaves the Titty Twister, Kate in the passenger's seat, and just keeps driving. He drives past the road blocks and the rangers, passes through Texas and the midwest, North and North and North until he manages to slide to a stop in a small Western town, with nothing around for miles.

... There doesn't seem to be a lot of people, either. Seth's grief wracked brain will file that away for later. Instead, the car jerks to a stop in front of a bar, and Kate jerks awake, blinking at the surroundings.

"Where are we?"

"Purgatory."

She scowls. "That isn't funny."

Seth turns, blinking for a moment in confusion. "I didn't name the town, sweetheart. Some asshole did almost two hundred years ago."

She squints in return, before sitting up more to peer at the area around them. "There's an actual town called Purgatory?"

"Yeah. Up in the Badlands of Montana." He pats down his clothes, checks his gun to make sure that it's still loaded. "C'mon. We're going to get a drink while I try to track down a friend of mine."

"A friend?"

"She's going to help us lay low until I figure out what we're going to do next."

Kate's expression goes flat. "She?"

He scowls. "It's not like that." She gives him another look. "Okay, it may have been like that, a long time ago, but given her family history, she might actually be kind of useful. You hungry or not because unless you want to wander around and see what else is in this one horse shit hole, I suggest you come in with me for some bar food."

She huffs, then scowls and climbs out of the car to make her way in ahead of him. And that is how Seth Gecko walks into Shorty's, in the company of an eighteen year old girl, looking really fucking shady.

Though that kind of is par for the course for him.

Shorty's is pretty deserted for once. That's because most people have evacuated the town and haven't come back yet. And Doc and Waverly are still....in the Garden of Eden, she supposes. It's weird. Right now it's basically just her and Nedley. She's nursing a glass of whiskey when he makes his way inside.

She snorts, almost like it's funny.

"You have some timing, Gecko."

"This a friend of yours, Wynonna?"

"Among other things."

Nedley sighs. "Why does that make me nervous?"

"Cause you're not as dumb as you look?"

Seth glances around before turning back to Wynonna. "Where the fuck are all the people?"

Because that seems to be the most pressing concern over anything else that's been said. Kate rolls her eyes before moving over to the bar to grab herself a drink because whatever she's about to be pulled into, she's not doing it sober. Has she ever gotten drunk before?

No.

Does she look at all old enough to drink?

Also no.

This would be far more entertaining were it not for the fact that Seth was baffled by this turn of events. "You didn't mention that Purgatory has a population of two."

Nedley tends to getting Kate a drink because he is still running the bar for Doc, technically. He's pretty sure the girl is underaged but considering the state everything else is in right now, he'll make an exception.

Mostly, he's leaving it to Wynonna to explain how batshit everything is right now.

"It doesn't, normally. But we lost all the revenants and most of the rest of the town evacuated before that, so here we are."

Which doesn't really....explain much but it's a start, at least. Sorry Seth, you chose a weird time to come visiting.

He's starting to get that. Kate on the other hand, will knock back something very hard, hack on it a little bit because she's a good Christian girl and the hardest she's ever really had was beer, before placing it down and speaking with a wheeze.

"What's a revenant?"

Anyone is free to answer that question, and from the quiet look of confusion on Seth's face, he'll wait for Kate's question to be answered to continue, mostly trying to process all of that.

Nedley is going to poor Kate a glass of water after that hacking and wheezing. Because he's already decided to adopt her. Sorry, Kate.

Wynonna will take the question.

"Demons. Special demons who were once outlaws killed by my great-great-grandpa who kept getting brought back from hell. It's a whole thing. Or was, anyway."

Honestly? It's better than who she just got adopted by, so Kate will take it. She takes the water from him without complaint, before looking over her shoulder at Seth. "Is that better or worse than snake vampires?"

Seth shrugs. "Honestly? Not sure. I'm a little new at this. That's why we came to see the professionals."

He gestures to Wynonna. Nedley should get a kick out of that.

Nedley needs someone to get his dad energy out on with Nicole missing, so Kate will do for now. He snorts at Seth's words.

"Wynonna's a hell of a lot of things, but professional ain't one of them."

Wynonna makes a face and flips Nedley off --though it was more affecitionate than malicious at this point

"Honestly? No idea, though we have had our share of vampires lately too -- though not the snakey kind. Bulshar had all sorts of fun friends. Those seem to be gone now too."

Which she has...mixed feelings about. Kate -- not young Kate but Doc's Kate -- was a cool lady for a vampire but she still was a vampire and turned Doc and it was just..a mess.

"Honestly she's not the kind of professional I was expecting." Kate takes another sip of her water before she realizes how that sounds and turns back to Wynonna. "That was meant to be an insult against him, not you."

Seth rolls his eyes, before turning back to Wynonna. "Maybe we should talk somewhere without the peanut gallery?"

"You're not the first person to assume I'm a prostitute, kid."

Doc had made that mistake, too. In any case, she doesn't take it personally. She's been called worse.

Wynonna nods at Seth's question.

"We can go down to the basement -- there's nobody there."

Seth nods, before glancing back to Kate. "Just sit tight, alright?" Kate gives him a half-hearted thumbs up, before Seth turns and follows Wynonna downstairs. The basement itself gives off all kinds of vibes, but he trusts her, and once they're at the bottom of the stairs, moves to lean against one of the one of the boxes or barrels present.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to just show up on you like this, but the past couple days have been a shit show." He pauses. "Maybe not as bad as your shit show, but a shit show all the same."

The basement....has been a lot of things, a lot of them not great, but it at least is private. And easier for her to handle then going back to the empty Homestead right now.

"Tell me about it. Your shit show. I could use the distraction."

He takes a deep breath, and it all comes out. His brother busting him out of jail. The Texas Rangers, the Titty Twister, the Maze, Santanico Pandemonium, Richie turning. All of it just pours out in one regurgitated mess of awful, and once he reaches the end, he leans back with a sigh.

"And take it easy on the kid, okay? She just had to stake her dad because he was going to turn and he didn't want to."

He figures if anyone would sympathize with that, it's Wynonna.

"Well, who hasn't had to kill a family member or two?"

It's said in jest, but there is empathy in her voice all the same -- she wouldn't wish that on anyone. Especially another young girl.

Yeah, that comment doesn't land particularly well with Seth. Not because of what he's done, but new things that he may have been passively ignoring about Richie, and have now been shoved in front of his face.

"You might be surprised."

"Sore subject?"

Wynonna isn't dumb, she knows when she's hit a nerve

One hand scrubs at the side of his face, before he moves to slump against one of the nearby cases stacked nearby. "You know how I told you my dad died in a fire when I was a kid?" He'll wait for her to confirm before he continues. "Turns out Richie started it."

"Shit."

It's not a great response, but it's the best Wynonna has right now.

"You know, my mom was locked up because she started a fire in the barn when I was a kid. Turns out she was trying to kill a demon who was attached to Waverly"

Never mind that the fire...could have also killed Waverly.

"Why did Richie do it?"

The answer to that question is an easy one. Their dad was an asshole, and Richie wanted him to stop beating on his big brother. Saying that answer out loud is a whole other story, so it takes him a minute to actually get them out.

"He was trying to protect me. He was ... shit. Our dad was a dick, and he wanted him to stop. And he just let me think it was an accident all this time."

"Sometimes we lie to our siblings because we think it's better for them than the truth. I let Waverly think our mom left us for a long time, but she wasn't, she was locked up."

Which...is the beginning of a sort of complicated story, but there's about no part of Wynonna's family history that isn't complicated, at this point.

"That's a little different, Earp. You didn't murder her and cover it up."

At least Waverly could confront them both about it and forgive them in time. There's still space for that. Richie took away both of those things, and watched Seth grieve him like an idiot and not realize that the reason his father was taken from him was sitting right next to him.

"Like I know he was a bad guy, but burning him alive was probably a little much."

"No, I just covered up that she tried to burn down a barn with Waverly inside of it."

So....not exactly the same thing at all, but still not great. Still, they had managed to hash some of that out before Michelle high tailed it out of there...to look for Julian....who was Charlie....who is dead now....yeah she probably needs to track down her mom again sometime soon but she needs to file that away.

"Still, it's shitty that he hid that from you for so long."

"It's shitty that your mom put all of that on you."

Because that's some kind of bullshit if Seth had ever heard it. But, he's done commiserating about their shitty families for tonight, so he decides to very brusquely change the subject.

"And I'm sorry about all of this. If there's anything we can do to help, the kid and I could use somewhere to lay low for a while."

"Nedley and I could definitely use the back up -- as you can see it's a dead zone here. I need to figure out where the hell everyone else is. And get my sister back."

And she knows she can't do that alone.

Seth nods, before looking back at her with a fairly determined expression. He can't make things right with Richie. What he agreed to, there's no taking back. But maybe he can at least do something right here.

"Then you've got us. For however long Kate's willing to stay put."

Which will likely be a while, because where else do they have to go?
