Kady ... does not feel like she is supposed to be the one doing this.

In a lot of ways, Penny 23 probably would have been the better candidate, given how much he loved his Julia, but there's a difference between his and this one. A belief of transference won't work. But the belief of someone who has been there since the beginning, who has seen all the ups and downs, who's faith has been tested, even broken ... that's kind of person might be able to do the trick.

So that is why Kady is here, arranging what they need for the ritual, and waiting for Julia to get undressed.

"Are you sure we should be listening to a maenad?" Just ... out of curiosity.

Penny 23 would have happy to do it, but ultimately it felt....less awkward for Julia for it to be someone who knows her. Who has seen her at her best and worst and has still ended up at her side despite all of that. And that person is Kady.

Julia shrugs her shoulders a little as she begins to tug off her shirt.

"Maybe not, but it's the only lead I have, currently"

"Guess we'll take what we can get."

She goes over the ingredients again, double checking to make sure that they have everything they need, and once Julia is completely naked, she turns back to face her again, brushing her thumb through some of the mixture and taking a step forward.

"Just ... let me know if you feel anything weird."

"Right. I'll let you know."

She tries not to sound awkward about it -- but it is a little inherently awkward. They were good friends. Best bitches, even. But this was territory they've never crossed before.

Nope. Definitely not. But Kady takes a deep breath and inches forward, slowly starting to draw the marks against her skin. She references the diagram that the maenad had given them at each turn, making sure that each of her marks is correct in the orientation.

"Here goes nothing," she whispers, before starting the chant.

Julia can't help it when a laugh bubbles out of her lips after a few moments -- she doesn't mean to, of course, but it's just they're both so tense and awkward --

"Sorry."

Kady can't help it. She's laughing soon after, because this situation is so fucking ridiculous, which likely leads to both girls dissolving into a puddle of giggles. Good job girls. They're so good at keeping focused.

"Sorry, sorry."

"I think we both needed to get it out," Julia reassures with her friend. "Kill some of the weird tension."

"Agreed."

Because true, the tension was weird and unnecessary and now that it's gone, things should be fine, right? Right. It's just Julia, she's just Kady, and they're just doing this weird maenad spell to try and figure out what's up with Julia's magic.

"Take two?"

"Take two."

Julia figures it should be easier. This is just Kady and if there's anyone she trusts -- it's Kady. There's nothing to feel weird about now, right?

Nope. Nothing at all to feel weird about now. Nothing at all to do with the soft brush of Kady's fingers, or the low husk of her voice as she goes over the incantation. There's a different kind of tension as she proceeds, a different kind of thrum to the magic as they proceed.

It has a way of zeroing things in, if nothing else.

It's totally normal now. Except it's not. It's....tense in a different sort of way, a way that Julia hasn't felt in a long time -- not since everything that happened with Reynard. She had wondered if she would ever feel that way again. But she's a person, and people heal, and if there's anyone she feels safe with in the world, it's Kady. Her breath begins to grow a little shallow as the magic continues.

There's a point where Kady begins to question if the tension is the magic or it's something real, truly existing between her and Julia. It's also a question of whether they should have gotten this from someone who followed Bacchus, if there are parts of the ritual that they weren't told about. It's too late to question it now, however, so she just continues to let it build, until the spell can't be pulled anymore and the spell bursts around them, bringing the delicate framework of the spell crashing down, rolling through both of them.

Julia begins to wonder that as well -- is that a part of the magic? Is it something they're supposed to act out on in order for the spell to work? Shoshanna didn't mention anything about that....but it wouldn't be the first time someone had left out an important part of a spell like this. But then soon enough the spell is over and they're left in the aftermath, and she finds herself a little breathless as she looks at the other woman now, unsure of what to do now.

"That was...wow..."

"Yeah. Wow is a good word for it."

It doesn't feel like the full word but it works for now. Kady shifts her weight unable to do anything just long enough for things to start getting awkward, but this still feels strange and slightly exploitative, so she takes a step back.

"I should go ... show her the results."
