( You had her at plush. And at not freezing to death. She likes ski resort fashion and buys a massive black hat (and a few other things) on day one to fit in. She trades her heels during the days for boots, but for the most part she maintains being Katherine.

Shopping bags in hand, she makes her way inside, surveying their suite. )

[He lets the door close behind him, before moving to shed some of his layers in the warmth of the room.]

We should be quite comfortable here until things blow over.

( It's been too long since she's been able to turn her survival instincts off. Ever since she came to the Salvatore's rescue in Mystic Falls, it's been one thing or another.

Once the Colony's plan becomes clearer, Katherine works at getting her and Damian off the chessboard. At least temporarily. )

The bloodier the witch war, the farther away we need to be.

[Damian doesn't want to be in the middle of the Gautlet anymore than she does. Self-preservation is important, after all.]

We know they know about Elena. Do you know if they know about you?

[How fortified do they need to be is the question, really.]

I spent enough time and money to stay off of anyone's radar, but from what we've learned about the Colony, they certainly are dogged in their pursuits. It's safest to assume they would want Elena and Katherine as a packaged set.

( A doppelganger is still a doppelganger after all. )

Well, then best we stay off their radar.

[The rooms are under one of his aliases, so it might take time for them to connect it to him.]

Perhaps when the blizzard passes we should get out of the country for a while.

[He pauses, reaching for his phone and pulling up the booking.]

I think we went with the Bentons. Or at least, this room was paid for by Lawrence Benton, Generous man that he is.

What generosity.

( She'd thank him if she cared.

Katherine raids one of the tables for any provided liquor, picking something Lawrence can be particularly generous with. She pours her boyfriend a glass and offers it to Damian. She takes her own swig from the bottle. )

Nice and warm, just how we like it.

[Damian takes the glass before knocking it back, leaning back and stretching out so he can stare up at the ceiling.]

I don't know if we've ever talked about this but do you do any of the winter holidays?

[He's not going to assume Christmas is her thing, but it's worth asking.]

I don't hate the Christmas season. There's something ... infectious about it. But, a girl doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving on the run and alone.

( In Willoughby she had friends and that was - maybe it was nice. Maybe it was just necessary. She's never opened up about the years she spent along and what it felt like on the run. She was the survivor. )

Are there other winter holidays?

Hannukah. Saturnalia. It can be hard to tell with people who've lived a long time.

[When you predate the Christian understanding of Christmas, things can get messy - not that he thinks Katherine does.]

Just wanted to be prepared in case you intended to go all out.

I like festivity and I like nice things. Would I say no to holiday decoration?

( She won't lead the way, but if she returned one day and found lights or fake snow or something, just might just let herself marvel and enjoy it. It's a part of what drew her to Damian in the first place once things took a turn in their dynamic. He not only taught her her capabilities as a human, but that what she was all those years didn't need to be what she always was. )

What about you? Did you and your family celebrate Saturnalia?

[He shakes his head.]

We weren't the celebratory type. We acknowledged Christmas only so much as my parents' intent to winter somewhere with skiing.

Do you miss it, your old life?

( She misses Bulgaria. She misses the simplicity and her family. She doesn't miss what comes after. Sometimes, in the late hours of the evening when she can't sleep, she misses one or both Salvatores. But that will go with her to the grave. )

Nothing really there to miss.

[His parents were mostly in name only, his mentor is dead. Katherine is likely the closest thing he has at this point to family, which would probably be considered sad by some, but he enjoys her company.]

I prefer to keep my eye on the future anyway.

Me too.

( She always has. She turns her attention to a welcome box all guests get and she cants her head as she raises hooked mistletoe to her eyeline. )

Free robes and free mistletoe. Do you think they charge extra if we don't hang it up? Or extra if we do?

I think this place deals with too many people with money to be keeping track of minor charges.

[He shifts closer, leaning in with a bit of a smirk.]

Do you want to hang it up?

[shreds]

We never needed it before. But, if you think you need incentive, I won't say no. It's -- a quaint tradition. And I like any tradition that leads to sex.

( Which he can't be surprised by. )

[He absolutely is not.]

I wouldn't call it incentive so much as opportunity.

[He shifts over to pick up the sprig, before rolling back and positioning him temptingly on the bed, with his arm over his head.]

After all, 'tis the season.

Indeed.

( And we will fade to black as they fade into romantic ski resort obscurity. )
