He saw firsthand what it's like to be a cruelly treated test subject thanks to Bucky. He has no intention of living out the horror his now dead friend did. (Long dead, he realizes. Steve tries to shove down the thought.)]

Steve looks concerned for a moment, measuring Max up to see if the answer to what he is wondering is evident in her body language before saying what's on his mind.]

Look. I know this is all kinda crazy right now, but you've got time to get used to things. Logan says he can put you up here, and I can get you clothes and things, and we'll take it one day at a time.

[Steve can do nothing more than nod along. He doesn't know what's outside this apartment really. He'll learn eventually for himself. For now, he supposes he lucky anyone wants him at all. Where would he go if what she says is true? He is quite possibly alone in the world.]
