You're telling me. I've run every test in the book. As far as I can tell, I'm human, but I don't know how or why I'm here.

We've had people randomly come back as human before. It doesn't mean something isn't up.

What exactly does he do for you, anyway?

[she then turns and looks her over critically.]

Are you a Slayer?

Technically, I work for him. [Well, since Angel quit and all. But details.]

And no, I'm not a Slayer. I went to high school with one, though.

And what is he doing these days?

[fishing for information to find an in? Maybe. But she is genuinely curious.]

We run a group of private investigators - - we help the helpless.

[She snorts.]

Of course you do.

Somehow, I don't think you believe me.

Oh, no. I'm sure that's exactly what you do. There simply seems to be a lot of helpless out there to help.

Of course, it's not the sort of work that ever goes away.

That kind of tedium would bore me rather easily.

I just hope he doesn't take it too hard that he can't help everyone.

[because sometimes doing just that can make things harder than they should be.]

He knows we can't. It's the inevitable truth, no matter how hard we try. We're too small to save everyone.

But that doesn't stop you from trying. I suppose that's admirable.

Better to save some lives then none.

[It's hard to appreciate that line of thinking when no one is saving yours.]

Why did you come to see Wesley?

Because I have no idea how I came back, and I need to know if there's a catch. I figured that if anyone could figure this out, it would be Wesley.

He is good at getting to the bottom of things.

And he has the benefit of being trained by the Watcher's Council. It gives him a bit of an edge.

Not to mention he reads like crazy. I mean, this kind of stuff? Like a field day for him.

Then hopefully he'll be able to find me an answer.
