Buffy, for all her tough Slayerness, was pretty soft on the undead once she got to know them as actual people. It was the only reason Spike had lasted as long as he had. Which wasn't to say Katherine would be safe if she started massacring, but... Spike would rather never see the sun than start allowing massacres.]
