[Point One: Derek's sister is a brat.

It isn't that he doesn't understand why Cora would do what she did, running away to hang out with another pack when she felt she was being ignored by her brother, but he doesn't understand why she had to pick on clear across the country. That being said, the pack she wound up with doesn't seem that bad.

And, well, it's the holidays. It certainly won't hurt if the Hales stuck around for a little while.

He's currently walking around, taking in the art of the house, when he hears a set of footsteps coming up behind him.]

[Cora was an amazing person to have join Jeremy's pack. Though they did try to convince her that family was important as well. All of them did. Elena included. She knows what it's like to lose family and to find them as well. Right in that moment though everyone was helping Jeremy. Everyone but the elusive she wolf the people around town kept talking about.

Elena walks up to where Derek is and gives a bit of a smile.]

Do I need to need you for something, Derek? Your company would be nice though. Cora's helping Jeremy and Clay before you ask where your sister is.

[He nods, because okay. If Cora is occupied, he probably should be too.]

[He doesn't know how much anyone would consider him company.]

[That gets a bit of a laugh out of Elena because Derek sounded so unsure. It's possible that it's because they're in new territory, or at least he is.]

Would you like a tour of the grounds?

Sure. Sounds like fun.

[He could use a walk, at least.]

Fun? With how big this place is that might not be true.

[She can't help but smile though. She felt at ease with Derek which was saying something. Elena didn't normally feel at ease with anyone outside of the pack.]

[He nods and goes to follow her lead, looking around as he goes.]

Seems like there's a lot of history here, at least.

[She can't help but laugh as she leads him towards the woods.]

There's 500 acres of land here. Most of it woods for us wolves to run around in. Outside of anyone who isn't family. Keeps intruders from showing up too a lot of the time. They get worried about what's out there in those woods and decide to turn tail and run. Only time that's been an issue is when the mutts were around.

[It's not a term he's familiar with, at least not in Beacon Hills.]

[Despite the fact that Elena can feel his wolf, she forgets that he's not one of theirs. He's not Jeremy's wolf. Not her wolf. That he was only there because of his sister.]

Non-pack wolves. Here they're known as mutts. You're either part of a pack or you're not. If you're not then you're a mutt.

We call them omegas.

[It's the same kind of connotation, just fancier.]

How many female werewolves in your pack?

One, currently - my sister. Technically Malia's a werecoyote. But my mom used to be our alpha before she died, and I had an older sister.

[And a beta who didn't make it, but they're not going to talk about that.]

[It was weird to hear that there were other female werewolves out there. Elena liked Cora for that reason alone, among other reasons. So she gives Derek a small smile]

I'm the only female werewolf out here. The only one here, it's why I asked.

Really? Huh.

[It's odd, but then again, he's only ever turned one girl wolf.]

Until we met Cora we'd never met another female werewolf.

[So it was a surprise to Elena when the other showed up on their territory.]

Well, for us it doesn't matter if it's man or woman. It can work either way.

The bite. It works on both men and women - but it can also go wrong on both men and women.

The bite doesn't always take. No one really knows why, but the body just ... rejects it. The person who was bitten usually doesn't survive it though.

Does it show any sign that it's rejecting it?

[Jeremy probably should've warned Derek about Elena's intrigue into his family. Especially with Cora there.]

Black blood, and other body fluids. A lot of pain. Death.

For us the change can either take or kill you. However, Clayton biting me could've killed me. Here, for us, woman aren't strong enough for the change. So I'm glad that where you're from they are. Though I've never heard of black blood.

[Derek is probably sure that if Talia or Laura had heard something like that, they'd scoff at the idea that women aren't strong enough, but that's neither here nor there.]

Sounds pretty similar then. But the black fluids are basically a sign that your body is eating itself from the inside out so ... it's not really pleasant.
