[Peter's in Cape Verdi.

It's the moment he's been dreading since they got here. Rebekah's abilities have been keeping people away but he can't (won't) let her use compulsion on Peter. After everything the man's done for him, he's not going to let her alter his mind just to keep them safe.

He does have to tell her, though, while he has no intention of leaving, there's no doubt that Peter will try and convince him to do the right thing. He makes his way back to the vacation house, dropping his hat on the front table as he comes in the door.]

[Rebekah respects Neal's requests, never tries to compel Mozzie or Peter even when it'd be so much easier if she did. Trust is important in relationships, she knows it better than anyone considering how many times her trust has been broken. How could he ever actually trust her if she messes with the minds of his friends?

She looks up from the magazine she's been paging through, a drink in her hand. She's been taking it easy so far today, just lounging around on the couch.

Her expression darkens as she notices the heaviness he seems to be carrying with him.]

What's wrong?

[He looks back over to her, running a hand through his hair as he moves closer to sit next to her.]

Peter's here. According to Mozzie's contact, he got off a plane this afternoon.

And you need to talk to him. So he can try to persuade you to go back.

[She tries to keep her voice neutral as she sits upright, turning to look at him.

But if he goes back -- he's wanted. He'll go back to jail and then she'll be alone. She doesn't like that idea at all.]

[He doesn't like it either. In fact, he doesn't want to leave Cape Verdi at all, but there's not much he can do about that.]

I have to at least listen, Rebekah. After everything he's done for me, I can't ignore him.

[She nods. She gets that, but she's still uncomfortable with it.]

And if he insists on you leaving?

I'm not going back to jail, Rebekah. If that's his offer I won't go.

[easily]

Good. [That is partly what she wanted to hear.]

And if he makes a better offer?

[alias_savant]

[He leans back against the couch, staring up at the ceiling for a moment, before looking over at her.]

If the offer required me back on the anklet in New York, would you come with me?

{He wants to go back to his life, to his family, but she's now part of that too. He wouldn't want to do it without her.]

[She pauses for a moment. After he undaggered she was pleased to leave and never look back -- but New York is not Mystic Falls. It does make her much closer, but if her brother wants to find her, he's going to do so no matter where she is.

She won't live her life in fear, not anymore.

She nods.]

I would.

[alias_savant]

[He smiles at that, relief crossing his features. If she wanted to stay, he would have stayed. But there's a part of him that wants to go home as well.]

Then that's the deal. Either I'm free, back on my anklet or I'm not leaving.

[She likes it here, but it's not a deal breaker. She wants to stay with him, she can't remember the last time she was with someone where she felt truly wanted.]

That seems rather reasonable to me.

Me too. And I miss New York.

[easily]

It'd be nice for a chance to better explore modern New York.

[alias_savant]

Plus, June would love you. She always complained about not having a female presence around the house, now that her granddaughter's gone.

I look forward to meeting her, then.

[alias_savant]

[He leans back against the couch some more, looking out over the beach and exhaling slowly.]

I will definitely miss that view.

[easily]

[She smiles, moving in to rest her head on his shoulder.] We should make sure we enjoy it as much as possible before we leave, then.

[he slips his arms around her shoulders, pulling her close]

I agree. Maybe Peter won't mind if we throw a small going away dinner.

That'd be nice, a chance to get to say goodbye to our lives here. [She will miss it. It's the first time she's been really happy at all for a long time.]

[alias_savant]

[He'll miss it as well. It's the first time he's been free in a very long time, even if in the back of his mind he knows it isn't true freedom. Simply the illusion.

If he goes back to New York, he'll have a chance at the real kind.]

I'll see what he says when I speak to him.

At the very least we should try to get down to the beach again before we leave.

Definitely. Make sure we get our money's worth.

Yes. And enjoy the nice weather while we still can.
